Perhaps not everyone knows that the elegant luxury boxes accompanying the T’a Milano Panettoni draw their inspiration from the 1700s boxes used by aristocratic families to store their hats when travelling overseas. Gioacchino Alemagna thought of reinterpreting them as sumptuous luxury boxes in which to store his sweets and Panettoni, even winning a WorldStar Packaging Award in 1958. Today, T’a Milano’s classic Panettone is also available in a vintage luxury “hat box” – a perfect gift that can be reused at home.

RECIPE FOR CUSTARD
28 g granulated sugar
140 g milk
56 g egg yolks (approx. 3)
140 g cream
Mix (do not beat) the egg yolks and sugar.
Bring the cream to the boil with the milk and pour over the egg yolks.
Cook until thickened at 82/84°C.
Cover with film and leave to cool in the refrigerator for at least 12 hours.
Store in the refrigerator.
